RULES AND POLICIES

C.R.H.S Girls Track & Field Policy Handbook (* Including Lettering & Safety)

It will be YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to understand the Minnesota State High School League participation rules, Coon Rapids High School Athletic Code, and be able to follow our Girls Team Policies.

It’s your responsibility to understand team rules and ask questions if unsure of policy.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCE

An unexcused absence is defined as an absence that does not have prior approval from your head coach. To obtain coach’s permission, you must talk to your HEAD COACH “in person” before practice. Depending on the reason, the coach may then issue an excused absence.

ABSENCE THE DAY OF MEET/ PRACTICE

If absent the day of a meet or practice for non-illness reasons such as a college visit or doctor’s appointment, you will need a note from the Athletic Director to participate. As long as students have been in school for more than ½ the day & approved you may be eligible that day. If you are absent from school, unexcused to school, or leave during the day sick, you won’t be allowed to practice or compete in a meet. If unsure, see A. D. (Mr. Wallrath) BEFORE practice

PRACTICE

All athletes are expected to be dressed and ready to meet at 2:40 PM. Expect practice to last until 5:00 PM (*given all are ready to begin on time). Most days, coaches will be available to work with athletes who desire additional technique work after 5:00 PM. Please do not schedule other activities or work at a job until after 5:00 PM on practice days.   Be prepared for outdoors, coaches will enforce wearing safe weather items to prevent injuries!

SCHOLASTIC STANDING

Your academic success has priority over sports. You must follow the school academic policy and take care of those responsibilities outside of practice time.  On rare occasions when academic make up must take place during any practice time, prior HEAD COACH’S approval must be given & communicated to by a teacher.  If late to practice, you must arrive with a written teacher pass!  Athletes must also be eligible per school district eligibility standards.

* No athlete will be penalized when at practices; opportunities to compete will remain for them!

TRAVELING

Athletes must travel with the team to and from meets. If extreme travel circumstances are needed, written approval from our Activities Office is a must. If you drive home with your parents, you will be required to sign out with your head coach.  An athlete may NEVER drive to/from a meet unless a note is provided to the HEAD COACH from activities office. You may NEVER drive with another student.      * Special note of emphasis to inform your parents:  We have had some problems in the past with athletes asking to leave while a meet is in progress (including home meets). While you or parents may wish to leave after you’ve completed your events, please understand that you are in a TEAM sport.      Athletes need to wait until the 4 x 400 Relay is complete and support your teammates.

Failure to comply with this TEAM RULE may result in sitting out a future meet

"GOLDEN RULE"

Respect teammates, opponents, coaches, & officials. Bring a positive attitude!

CONSEQUENCES FOR TEAM POLICY OR RULE VIOLATIONS

1.  Formal/verbal warning from the Head Coach.                                                    2.  2nd warning may result in a missed meet; still expected to attend that meet/help with your team.

3.  3rd warning results in #2 + a meeting with head coach (assistant coach), athlete & a parent.

FINISH WHAT YOU START

Make a commitment to track & field. Never quit on yourself or team during the season. Even though track & field athletes compete individually, track & field is a team sport. You’re needed to score TEAM points. You’re needed in practice to push others, as they push you to improve!!

EQUIPMENT

Athletes are responsible for all equipment checked out to them. Tape measures, throwing implements, uniforms, and warmups are a few items that have been lost in the past. If you’re checked out an item and it’s lost, you’ll be responsible for equipment or uniform replacement.

INJURIES

With every sport, there’s always the possibility of injury during participation. Though unlikely if proper procedure is followed, there is a chance of injury - even life-threatening ones can occur. For your protection the following will be observed when dealing with an injury. All injuries, during practice/competition, must be reported immediately to a coach and/or trainer. Injuries requiring medical attention will make it necessary for the athlete to bring written permission from our trainer (Jeremy) or possibly a doctor, to resume athlete participation.

LETTERING POLICY

The following criteria will be used to award a letter in track and field =                 An athlete must earn at least 15 points. Points scored at varsity meets only for the team.
